What are you doing to achieve your goals? We all have the same number of hours in a day… you may have heard that phrase before and it’s true. However, we all have different levels of responsibilities in our lives so the amount of hours one person has compared to the next will vary.
This means the things we set out to achieve may take longer than we would like sometimes and we should give ourselves grace for that whilst taking advantage of the additional things we can do. So, here are some things you can do to achieve your goals.
1. Wake Up Early
Time is precious and highly valuable. The earlier you rise, the more you’re able to get through. For example, I wake up between 6 am and 7 am on weekdays (if I’m not working), and I start the day with self-care. I do yoga, meditate, pray, read the verse of the day, and so on. Then I get ready for work whilst listening to my favourite podcasts before having something for breakfast. Now you might be thinking, “how does that help you to achieve your goals, Danielle?” Well, it gives me the headspace to start my day right and in a way that makes me feel good and ready to take on what may lay ahead.
This might not work for you at all, because not everyone is a morning person! You may prefer to flip it on its head and have self-care time at a different time in the day and that’s awesome. Do what’s right for you.
2. Commit
Even if something does take you longer than you’d like, stay committed to whatever target you have set for yourself. Becoming a yoga teacher is taking longer than I would like, but you know what? I’m focused on the journey and becoming better with each and every practice because that’s what’s going to make me a great yoga teacher for the individuals I create classes for. Keep the vision and outcome you have at the forefront of all that you do and remember to give yourself space and grace to grow and evolve.
3. Take accountability
As individuals, we are accountable for our own success. You have the inner power to achieve whatever it is that you want to but this also means owning your shit. If something doesn’t work out or go according to plan, figure out a way to fix it because, as the super awesome Marie Forleo says, “everything is figureoutable.” There is always an opportunity to adapt and make changes so don’t give up or blame others. Step up.
4. Believe in your sauce
Yes, believe in your sauce, Queen! Be bold as fuck and have confidence in what you’re doing, regardless of how big or crazy it might seem to other people. Even if you fail, so what? View it as a learning opportunity and add an additional spice to your sauce. What am I going on about? The sauce is YOU – your skills, knowledge, experience and expertise.
5. Work smart
Having a clear plan of action each day leads to better results, as you’re able to accomplish more in less time. At home, I have a wipe board to the left of my desk to help me remember the things that I need to do, and I also use it to create mini lists of things to work through. There are tons of different options for this, including blocking out time in your calendar to get the major things done or writing lists – whatever takes your fancy! The key is to prepare and map things out in advance.
