When I was thinking of what to share with you, I thought back to when I listen to the incredible Sara Blakely being interviewed by Lewis Howes. She spoke about the steps and lengths she went through to ensure her own success with Spanx which was hugely inspiring.
All of us have the ability to ensure our own success because when you really want something, you have to go out and get it.
Now, everyone’s definition of success, and what it means is different for all of us, right? And that’s totally cool, but there are certain things we can do and partake in, to really step up and own it!
What I’ve learned is the journey to success is a process and it can be a long hard one (no pun intended). Going through the motions of what comes along with that process has enabled me to build strength, develop myself, character and grow overall as a human being!
The things I’m going to share with you are from my experience because it’s pointless sharing what I don’t know.
Ask For Help
Now, this is super important because we cannot do everything alone, there are times we need to lean on others. Greatness is achieved in partnership and through collaborating with others and I want to share an example of this with you.
When I ran a membership platform for black female entrepreneurs, I knew I couldn’t achieve the level of greatness I wanted to alone which is why I had 14 incredible experts onboard who ran their own businesses to share their knowledge, expertise, strategies, mistakes, failures, stories and so much more with members.
From there, I expanded on this even further with trainers who created monthly modules for members based on their area of expertise to further support women to thrive in their business.
I didn’t want members to just learn from me so it was important they had different people (women and men) they could be inspired by and tap into.
When we realise there is strength in asking for help, things start to shift. There is absolutely no shame in it because it represents strength, not a weakness.
Success Attracts Success
Be open to get advice from people who are more successful than you and/or are where you desire to be. I make a conscious effort to learn from people I’m inspired by and make me look at life from a different perspective.
I consider myself blessed to have people around me that help me to do just that.
So with that in mind, I want to set you a challenge. Think of at least three people you can build a relationship with who can support you on your journey. This isn’t about just taking because you have to bring something to the table too so give some thought to how you can contribute to them positively based on your skills, experience, knowledge and expertise.
The things we want tend to be outside of what we are used to. Start to do things that make you feel uncomfortable and enable you to be challenged.
I remember that once I had the opportunity to meet with someone and the two places they suggested to meet were elite members clubs. I was thinking “what the hell, that ain’t my lane!”
Within that moment, I wasn’t working towards ensuring my success, I was blocking it. I had to take a step back and renew my outlook. That opportunity led me to put myself in a space that allowed me to visualise and realise that I can be in whatever damn lane I want.
Make the most of your most valuable asset – your time. One of the things I would hear from clients when I had them is “I don’t have enough time.” However, it’s not a case of not having enough time, it’s how the time is being spent which is the problem. For example, when I was self-employed I hired a VA so I could work on my business instead of in it.
Invest your time and energy into things that will contribute to your success, instead of hindering it.
Are you getting the most value for your time? If not, look at ways you can change this because you’re in the driving seat. Invest your energy into things that contribute to your success, instead of hindering it.
Commit to the targets you set for yourself, but make sure it feels good to you. When it does you’ll find there will be no excuses. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes you may be tired or simply can’t be bothered. I get it, so take the time you need. However, keep in mind that every step no matter how small brings us closer to achieving what it is we want. Ensure your success by being committed. Excuses are just us lying to ourselves, about what we claim we can’t do. The reality is, we can do anything we put our mind to.
You are responsible for your success, no one else. Just you. If this isn’t something you have been doing, the sooner you start the better. See yourself as a leader, because you are the leader (the CEO) of your life.
What people think about you needs to become irrelevant. Instead of complaining, do something about whatever challenges or issues you face and adapt and make changes.
When you take responsibility, you step up and ensure your success.
Believe In Yourself
OK, it’s a phrase that gets thrown around a lot and it’s for a good reason! It’s about having confidence in yourself, and what you plan for yourself regardless of how big or crazy it might seem to other people.
If I didn’t believe in myself, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today and sharing this with you now. Even when we fail, it’s a learning opportunity that we can use to move us forward and share with others to benefit them on their journey.
Invest In You
I say this all the time from a place of experience. One of the best investments you will make for yourself, is when you wake up and realise the power and benefits of investing in you. Change your money mindset and invest in a coach or mentor that can help you move to the next level, someone who can hold you accountable, challenge and push you.
To be balanced on this point, I also want to share other ways you can invest in yourself and they are super easy to implement and integrate into your daily routine.
Now this one we can all do and it’s to block out time to have at least one hour that is dedicated to self-development.
Whatever your interests are, take the time to build your expertise on the things that are going to get you to where you want to be.
The second option to invest in you is to sign up for online webinars. There are free online webinars taking place day in and day out on various different topics.
The third and final option is to attend in-person seminars, workshops, masterclasses. Some require a small investment and some are free. Regardless of what the case may be, not only will these kinds of events upgrade your mind, but they will pluck you out of your world, into one where you can mingle, get to know different people and potentially create new opportunities. Attending the right events can be transformational.
Now over to you. How are you going to take what’s yours to ensure your success? Share with a comment and don’t forget to react to this post with an emoji!
