9 Ways To De-Stress & Chill

Wellness

Life can be super stressful sometimes! There are days where it can feel like you’re hitting tennis balls left, right and centre non-stop. At the end of the day I sometimes wonder how I was able to keep going.

That’s when I take a breath and know that I need to de-stress and chill from it all. So let’s spend some time together to go through 9 ways you can de-stress and chill too.

Talk about it

One of my amazing friends and I always speak about our crazy-ass days which really helps! We both have careers that can be fast-paced, stressful and demanding at times so we understand where the other is coming from. We are able to laugh through things and move onto lighthearted topics to shift the mood. Find someone you’re able to speak with about how you feel as a way to de-stress, without making them stressed…

Get some fresh air

Spending time outside and getting fresh air can be an amazing way to clear your mind. I tend to go to the gym after a stressful day and the walk there is so darn refreshing! Sometimes on the way home I take a detour to get some more outside time and pick up stuff I may need from the high street. Having some alone time outside of your home or a physical office environment can be awesome.

Do nothing

Sometimes when I close my laptop for the day and turn off my work phone, I do nothing and just sit in pure silence. It’s like letting your ears eat grass. It’s a saying from my mama because what sound does grass make? Not a single sound to my knowledge! Peace of mind is a beautiful thing; be content with doing nothing.

Daydream

Allow your mind to wander. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and picture yourself somewhere… for me it would be on a secluded beach in the Maldives or Bora Bora with a cocktail in my hand, laying on a sunlounger in a bikini and sunglasses and listening to the waves of the ocean. I can’t wait to go on holiday again!

Connect with your breath

You’re breathing right now without effort. This is about feeling your breath, taking slow, deep, full breaths. One of my favourite breathing methods is Pranayama, which consists of synchronising the breath with movements during my yoga practices. It’s also a breathing exercise on its own.

Listen to your favourite music

Zone out with your favourite artists singing or rapping in your ears! For me, sometimes it’s Drake, Chris Brown or a ton of different artists via my random YouTube Music playlist. Who is it for you? Chill, relax and maybe even dance around like someone is watching. 😜

Allow yourself to indulge

Treating yourself to something you enjoy can help you to forget about the stressful events of the day, so do something indulgent! Whether it be a dessert, booking a massage (love the Urban app for short notice bookings) or a glass of your favourite wine, allow yourself to be free and enjoy whatever it is you choose. I’m a dessert freak… M&S apple crumble and madagascan vanilla custard is my weakness!

Get sexy…

Sex or masturbation can be an amazing way to de-stress if you’re feeling the vibe. Releasing all those endorphins and other feel-good hormones is euphoric! Whether it be solo or with someone else, let yourself go and reach orgasmic pleasurable heights.

Stretch it out

Stretching your muscles can help you to relax after a rough day. It can also help you to sleep better and improve your mood. I highly recommend yin yoga which helps to increase circulation in the joints while improving flexibility.

What will you do to chill out, or is there something else you do to de-stress?
