So let me start off by saying, I fully appreciate and understand that not everyone is a morning person. One of my friends thinks I’m nuts for waking up at the time I do.
Before lockdown, I was waking up at 5.30 am. Now it averages at around 6.30 am and I start my working day at 8 am because I prefer to get a head start. Plus, I work for a global business so by that time, I’ve already got a bunch of emails, Zoom and Slack messages to go through.
So with that in mind, I want to share 5 morning habits for a super productive day with you. Why? Because what you do in the morning can really help with setting you up for success so let’s get right into it.
1. The snooze button is not your friend
I know… It feels so good to hit the snooze button over and over again but the sooner you get up and out of your bed the better. I’m not going to tell you to put your phone across the room or in another room because it’s not something I do so I wouldn’t be being true to myself or you if I said that shit for the sake of it. To ease myself into the day I read the verse of the day, and go through the story for the day in my Bible app.
Start slow… limit the number of times you hit snooze, throw the cover off you, let your feet hit the ground and take a stand! The more you do this, the easier it will get, I promise!
2. Get active
As soon as I’m out of bed I fill up my 1-litre water bottle, add lemon and prepare for my workout. It could be yoga using the Inner Dimension app, a workout with Ciara London or one of my personal workouts – currently obsessed with skipping!
Anyway, being active in the morning will get the blood pumping and get you energized and ready to start the day. As soon as I’ve completed my workout I meditate for 5 or 10 minutes, pray, say my daily affirmation for 3 minutes and then I’m ready to have a shower and all that other good stuff. Ahhhh… the joys of working from home!
3. Audacious gratitude
Gratitude can be expressed in so many different ways. One of my favourite ways is to write down what I’m grateful for and I have something very exciting to support you with that soon… Taking the time out to express gratitude for what you have can make all the difference to your mindset for the day ahead as it can sometimes be easy to bypass all of the incredible things we have within our lives.
Even saying thank you for the super simple things in life can help you start your morning on a positive note. It also helps you not to take things for granted which is always worth a moment of your time.
4. Have a proper breakfast
My fav is organic oats with coconut milk, blueberries and a banana or my nutty green smoothie which is more filling than it may sound. Eating a healthy breakfast will give you the energy you need to be at your best as well as improving your short-term memory and the ability to concentrate for longer periods of time.
5. Own your day
Mentally prepare for all that is ahead of you by owning your day in terms of what you will commit to and take action on. This is about setting your agenda and prioritising what is most important to you and ensuring you get it done.
To-do lists are great but don’t go too crazy. Aim to have 3 tasks/activities maximum to work towards. Anything above what you set out to do will be a bonus! I tend to use Google Calendar to ensure I have time blocked out and Trello.
So that’s it in a nutshell! What habits do you have or will you use based on this post? Share with a comment and don’t forget to react to this post with an emoji!
